 Silver Sun - Angel Eyes
This short little song was a B-Side from the time of their self-titled debut album back in '96/'97. It's a bright and cheery tune that's better than half the tracks on that album.

The Gaslight Anthem - Look On The Bright Side
Not actually recorded by The Gaslight Anthem but a side project/solo thing by mainman Brian Fallon though you can't really tell any difference. A nice slice of Americana/Alt. Rock with an engaging chorus and sweet sentiment. I once refused to listen to this band for quite a long time just because I distrust Americans in flat caps.

Rancid - Blast 'Em
Timebomb was probably Rancid's biggest single from their biggest album, ...And Out Come The Wolves.  This song was one of the B-Sides off of it (the other was The War's End from ...Wolves). I really like the rolling guitar riff in this one. Off the top of my head I can't think of a catchier song about shooting someone in the face.

Psychostick - Hokey Fuckin' Pokey
Psychostick are a light hearted Hardcore band from Arizona and this song is a fair representation of what they're about. It was recorded around the time of their debut album, We Couldn't Think Of A Title and I think it might have been a bonus track or something. Anyway, it has swear words in it, careful

Frightened Rabbit - Fuck This Place
This song was a free download on this Scottish bands website as part of the A Frightened Rabbit ep. Despite the title it's actually a pretty song about getting drunk and lost in an unfamiliar town or city. It also features guest vocals from Tracyanne Campbell from fellow Scottish Indie band Camera Obscura.

KoЯn - Not Meant For Me
Another unreleased song. It was one of several songs featured on the soundtrack for Queen Of The Damned supposedly performed by LeStat's band but actually by Jonathan Davis. Contracts and red tape meant that, while Jonathan's vocals were fine in the film, they couldn't be released as part of the soundtrack. All of the songs he sang as the voice of LeStat were rerecorded with guest vocalists, in this case, the late Wayne Static from Static-X. This is the original version featuring Jonathan's vocals.

The Divine Comedy - Song For Ten
I don't really know much about this song other than it's something to do with Doctor Who; it was recorded especially for one of the episodes apparently. I don't watch it so I dunno. The song itself is a Sixties style pop song, typical of the kind Neil Hannon does so well. It doesn't sound very Whovian to me.

The Pretty Reckless - Where Did Jesus Go?
I'd heard about this band for a while before actually listening to them. I'd heard that they were Taylor Momsen from Gossip Girl's band and that they were surprisingly good. It turns that is indeed correct. They play Alternate Rock that's a little bit Gothic, a little bit Grunge; the kind of thing The Crow would like. I have no idea where this song is from but it's not on either album and doesn't appear to be a B-Side. It's quite good though.

Manowar - Die For Metal
How can anyone not like the greatest Metal band in the world who are absolutely not homo-erotic in any way shape or form? Die For Metal was a bonus track on, I think, Gods Of War. It isn't the best Manowar to be honest, it's a bit slow and ploddy but the lyrics are pure genius. It's all about liking Heavy Metal a very very lot.

Bowling For Soup - Award Show Taylor Swift
BFS funded their last album, Lunch. Drunk. Love through the crowd source website, Kickstarter and this song was an exclusive given out to those who stumped up cash. It's typical of their upbeat, light hearted but quite clever Pop Punk anthems, It's all about appreciating life and being happy which is nice. They're a really good band and it's a shame the vast majority of people only really know them for one sing. You know which one.

Pearl Jam - Betterman (Molo Session version)
Not much to say about this updated version of a classic song from their hugely successful album Vitology. This version is recorded with a South African school choir. I don't know if it's a Bettersong (ahaha) than the original but it's certainly interesting.

Sen Dog - Hoo Ride
SX-10 were the rock side project of Sen Dog of Cypress Hill fame who released just the one album, Mad Dog American in 2000. It was a combination of Hip Hop, Nu-Metal and Southern Rock. They recorded a follow up, Temple of Tolerance, in 2006 but it got shelved for some reason. This song is taken from it. I'm not entirely sure what a Hoo is.

NOFX - Your Hubcaps Cost More Than My Car
Over the course of a year back in 2005/2006, veteran Punk band NOFX released a 7" single every Month featuring two exclusive tracks. Some of them, including this track were later included on the Backstage Passport album. I think it's fairly self evident what this song is about.

Therapy? - Misery (Acoustic)
The original version of this song featured on their drug addled third album Infernal Love. I wasn't that enamored with that version but this stripped down one works much better, the lyrics are more poignant and the song itself is much more haunting and sinister.

Baby Chaos - Follow The Swallow
Recorded during the period when the band were going by the name Deckard and featured on their debut Ep The Deckard Ep. All of the songs on the Ep apart from Follow The Swallow ended up on their album Stereodreamscene. the production is a bit rough but the song is decent and is from the rockier end of their spectrum.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Nocturama
The title track of his/their 2003 album that was inexplicably left off the album and relegated to B-Side. It later cropped up, unsurprisingly, on the box set B-Sides & Rarities.

Ben Folds Five - Sleazy
Dunno where I got this song from or what it's off but it's a, not-entirely serious, cover of a Ke$ha song. I'm not that au fait with Ke$ha's music but, from what I've heard, I say this was an improvement on the original.
Also, why is itokay for a young, pretty blonde to 'get sleazy' but when a portly, bearded 40 year old man with holes cut into his pockets has a go it's very much frowned upon? Sexist.

Tori Amos - Take Me With You
This song was apparently an outtake from the Little Earthquakes recording sessions back in 1991 that ended up not being used, either on the album or for a B-Side. It sounds very much like the stuff she was recording back then but it's not quite up to the standard of B-Sides of the time like Here. In My Head, Mary, Sugar, Take To The Sky or Flying Dutchman so I can see why it was overlooked. It's better than some of her later stuff, mind!

Eureka Machines  - Down The Front (With The Best Band In The World)
This Alternative Rock band from Leeds, UK have funded their last couple of albums through PledgeMusic and one of the incentives they've offered is to record a song of your choice. Some people asked for covers, others to have their own songs covered and some, as is the case with this one, a brand new song with certain elements such as "a heavy bit, a poppy bit, friends names and, for some reason, jelly beans". It came out alright.

Shihad - Extreme Suicide
This New Zealand band have never really made any great waves outside of the Antipodean but they released some great album in their 20 odd year career. They went a wee bit safe and Radio Rock-y for a bit but they're thankfully back on track and their last album was edgy and aggressive. This is a B-Side to a song from their 2005 album Love Is The New Hate. That album straddled the poppy and the heavier sounds of their career and this song is a good example of that.

The Boomtown Rats - Fanzine Hero
This is an early demo from about 1975 I think, certainly before their first album. It's pretty far removed from I Don't Like Mondays, being a Rock n Roll boogie song with plenty of piano, including a lengthy solo from Johnnie Fingers. They should have properly recorded it,

Morrissey - The Never-Played Symphonies
I was listening to this song in the car and it gave me the inspiration for this mix, the title fits doesn't it? It was a B-Side from the Years Of Refusal album in 2009, dunno which single but it doesn't really matter. Its a good song.
