Mix CD #57 - You Either Got It Or You Don't

Hello folks! How's it going in your little corner of Worldwide Cataclysm? If one thing this Pandemic has shown, it's just how spiteful, stubborn and selfish a lot of people can be. Not to mention completely hatstand. Imagine what these obstreperous fuckers would be like if it was a proper Post-Apocalyptical breakdown of Society, I don't think Mad Max or Fallout are too far off the mark really. It starts with refusing to wear a mask, ends with bezerking Super Mutants.

Maybe I'm immune, I don't know.

So, Mix #57. It's taken me a little longer to write than I would have liked but it's the first blog in months that's actually out on time. As seems to have become the norm, there's artists from a whole load of Countries featured: France, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Germany, Australia etc. There's some peculiar stuff too.

I had a bit of a fanny on trying to sort out the Spotify playlist, there's five tracks I've written about that aren't on Spotify, so there's a quarter of the blog unable to be listened to by you fancy pants streaming types, sorry. I've highlighted which tracks below.

Cheers,
Luke

Spotify Adjustments
Jon Cougar Concentration Camp - I've substituted in the title track of the only album of theirs that's on Spotify, which is Too Tough To Die.
Butterfly - They aren't on Spotify at all so I've had to omit this one entirely
Ghost:Hello - I've substituted in the track Fingerstache from their album, The Sound Of Color In Space.
2 Ton Predator - Another band completely absent from Spotify.
Kombynat Robotron - They only have the one album on Spotify, Modul 12. I've included the track I from that. It's 22 minutes long, enjoy!

Mix CD #56 - I Only Fall In Love With Scientists

Hello folks, here's the fifty sixth blog, a couple of weeks belated again sorry! As usual with my no themed mixes, there's a right hodgepodge of stuff, from a wide range of countries. There's some bleepy Synthpop from Scotland, Psychedelic Jazz Rock from Italy and Stoner Rock from Iceland, not to mention a fair bit of Punk from a few places too. It's all, of course, exemplary.

After almost six months I've found myself unfurloughed once more and back to work. Ironically, this means I'm gonna have more time to write these things so normal service should be resumed forthwith. If I go by my once a month thing then there are only two more blogs before its the AOTY special so I'm gonna try and squeeze another one in there to get back on track a little. It's been a funny old year so far, eh?

Cheers,
Luke

Mix CD #55 - Summer Of Bro's

Happy July folks! Anyone else found out they aren't the star sign they've spent the 45 years being anymore? What kind of name is Ophiuchus anyway?

Anyway, the blog. I've been wanting to have this Randy track as a title track since before last Summer but never really got the chance. It doesn't really seem fitting this year either what with lockdown and the dying and all that but bollocks to it. I still don't know if I should have added the ' though, neither way looks right.
There's a good mix of new and old on the blog this month with a reasonably varied selection of genres and nationalities and, I think, some really good tunes. Enjoy!

Cheers,
Luke

Mix CD #54 - Keeping The Stupid Stupid

Friggin' finally, here's the fifty fourth blog for your delectation just the seven weeks too late. Lockdown is still causing me delays and both myself and my wife have been laid low with Covid-19 symptoms for a few weeks now which hasn't helped much. Once we're finally diagnosed and can maybe get all antibioticised up, things might improve.

Hopefully, the mix will be worth the wait and I certainly think it is, I love all of these tracks and heartily recommend each band. Hopefully there's plenty that you're currently unfamiliar with and can head off on some musical journies of wondrous discovery. That's the plan anyway.
Cheers,
Luke

Mix CD #53 - What's The Alternative To The Alternative?

Hello folks, remember me? It's been a good while since the last blog update sorry. For most people the Covid-19 lockdown is a chance for increased productivity with blogs and podcasts and other assorted amusements but, as I do the majority of my writing on company time, I'm finding it hard to make time for it with family stuff and, er, Skyrim.
Due to my little lad being high risk I'm gonna be off work until everything is alright again so it'll be a while until (my already erratic and lackadaisical) normal service is resumed.

Anyway, this blog. There's no theme as is the norm these days, just some great music. There are artists from all over the world, including six from Australia alone. I seem to be listening to a whole load of Antipodean bands at the moment but it seems to be a particularly fertile source of new, exciting music so expect more on the next blog!

I dunno why it's taken me so long to think of it but I've also included a link to every artist's Facebook page. Just click on their name down where all my blurb is, ta...

Cheers,
Luke

Annoyingly, the only track not available on Spotify is the bloody title track by Local Resident Failure. As a substitute, I've gone for the opening track from their 2012 album A Breath Of Stale Air. It's appropriately titled The Opener.

Mix CD #49 - Rec & Play

Hello all! Here's the forty ninth edition of the blog and, once again, there's no theme other than right good music and that. Also just like previous mixes, there's music represented from a wide range of nationalities, around eleven I think, but a couple of the songs are sung in non-English. Maybe one day I'll get around to a full mix of other languages, I've been planning to for a while.

Some of you may have read my post on Facebook about the next post, it doesn't take a mathematical genius to calculate it'll be the fiftieth one. I always wanted to do something special for such a big landmark, a meaningful theme or something. As it happens, it's fallen in December which is when I always do my AOTY so it looks like that's your special blog. Happy birthday.

In the meantime, have a read (and a listen if you want) to this blog. As I said, it's right good.

Cheers,
Luke

Mix CD #48 - Welcome To The Real World

Good evening!
Here's the latest installment of Sapphire Bullets for your enjoyment, should you choose to enjoy it. There's no theme this Month, as usual, just a collection of songs I've been loving lately.
As does seem to be the growing trend with these blogs though, there are artists from a wide range of countries as far apart as Indonesia, Ukraine, Switzerland and beyond. Well, not beyond but you know what I mean. Other places and that.

This blog has taken me a while to get out due to busy real world stuff. I've been on nights during Fresher's Week so it's that's included an alarming amount of vomit (not mine), pissed up aggravations, ambulances and, at one point, the hefting of an unconscious girl. Then more vomit.
Given that I do most of my blogging on company time, it's meant I've had to do actual real work and haven't been able to abuse worktime privileges much. Hopefully, that will change and I'll get the next blog out in good time.

Cheers for reading (and listening if you listen)

Mix CD #47 - Return From Cybertron

Hello and welcome to the 47th blog! One that is graced by the beautiful, wrathful visages of Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus*!

As I said in my last Facebook post, that about 14 people saw, this is and isn't a themed mix. As the opening track is quite clearly a song about Transformers, I thought I'd see if any other songs I was planning on using had any geeky themes or titles and bung them on this mix too, much like I did with Mix 39 - Kid In The 80's.

As it is, maybe about half of the songs kind of fit the theme this time, though some only vaguely and in title alone. I'd have a put a bit more effort into it if I was doing a full themed mix but I'm not so I didn't. Each track is an absolute banger though so don't shed too many a tear.

Like the last few mixes seem to have been, there are acts from several different countries represented. Other than the usual Usses and Ukk's, there are acts from Belgium, The Netherlands, South Africa, Greece, France, Germany, Australia, and Norway. There's good music everywhere!

I'll be starting work on the next blog soon and I guess I should be thinking about what to do for the 50th blog as that'll be here soon too. I didn't think I'd get past 10 before everyone lost interest but there's still a few of you hanging on!

Cheers,
Luke

Mix CD #46 - Another Fine Day

Well, here you go. I finally finished Mix 46! I'm getting proper slack with it sorry, life gets in the way and all that. I'm gonna have to get on top of it as I've got at least six or seven more playlists worth of stuff I'd like to get out this year. That's not going to happen.

Anyway, Another Fine Day is another collection of, what I think is, great music and it's reasonably eclectic. There's not too much older songs this time, I dunno about you but I'm finding the sheer volume of good stuff huge so far this year. I keep a playlist of current stuff to whittle down for my Albums Of The Year blog in December and it's almost 200 songs long already and we're only halfway through the year.

I digress. Please give the blog a read, give the music a listen and I hope you find something good/new that you like very much. I like you very much.

Cheers,
Luke

Mix CD #45 - Just Some Kid On A Bike

It's a bit later than scheduled but here's the forty-fifth blog for your wonder and delight.
As seems to be the norm at the moment, there's no theme other than songs I want people to hear. That seems to be good enough for the time being right?

Just like the last couple of blogs, it's another multinational collection of songs with bands from Israel,  Brazil, Russia, and The Netherlands amongst others. It's not an intentional thing but it's nice to be not just including the same old US/UK mix of stuff. There's cool music everywhere.

I'd promise to get the next blog, Another Fine Day, out in good time to try and make up for lost time this month but that's probably not going to happen. It's a good one though so maybe it's worth the wait, maybe not. Fuck knows.

Anyway, here's May's stuff. You can read my ramble about each song below and can download it via the link provided if you want.

Mix CD #44 - The Dancing Dolls Of Porcelain

Greetings fair wanderer. Come in and rest yourself awhile by the fire, yon minstrels shall strum you a most soothing roundelay.

That is to say, there's the 44th mixblog thing I've done. There's no theme again this month, I did think it might be a good cover and title for an all women blog as I've been fancying doing that theme for a while but, well, I didn't.

Like the last blog, there's music from several countries featured, almost definitely Canada for sure this time. There's stuff from Denmark, The Netherlands, Australia, Japan, and Greece as well the usuals.
There's a few longer songs this time too, which is good for me as it means less writing.

I'll be starting work on the next blog (Just Some Kid On A BIke) in the next day or so and hopefully, I'll have it out on time for next month.

Until then, take care!
Cheers,
Luke

So yeah, finally, here's the second blog of 2019 and the first of non-themed music. Bit shoddy of me that. For those of you that are reading this via the Facebook will have seen my post about the delay but those that didn't, I've just not been properly online that much for the majority of February so I've not been writing much. I've done it now though, you can read it if you like.

There's a wide range of stuff on the mix this month, all of it is very good so please give it a listen. There's artists from a load of different countries this time too, it's all very multinational. Mix CD #40 - My Slumbering Heart

Following the editing calamity last time, where I deleted half of what I'd already written, I was extra careful while writing the blog this time around. Not careful enough, it seems. I'd almost finished, just had the last couple of bands to type out, tried to delete one little typo and accidentally deleted the entire entry instead. Autosave kicked in instantly and I said some really quite bad words.
I guess in the end it's worked out better as I've swapped a few things about and included a couple of songs that I hadn't in the previous draft too. Good songs.

Once again there's no theme, some new releases, some from old, revisited CDs and some miscellaneous shit.
There's also quite a few from albums that are Free Download/Name Your Price on Bandcamp (Astronoid, Retirement Party, Cybernetic Witch Party, Sad Hill plus others) this month. I'd like to name my price as more than nothing on more occasions than I currently do but my money gets sucked away into other, more mundane things so, for now, I'll just have to listen to free stuff and feel a bit guilty about it.

Anyway, there's a ton of really great songs (in my opinion) on the mix this month so I hope you listen to/enjoy it.

Cheers
Luke

Mix CD #39 - Kid In The 80's

And lo! They all did bear witness to the eventual arrival of a new and shining blog. As one they gazed upon its wonder and saw that it was the thirty ninth of it's kind, throughout its majesty lay a partial theme of sorts.

Yeah, this is the 39th mix, that's a bit late due to me losing a goodly portion of what I'd written due to the fecking up of Chrome not once but twice. It's not a themed mix, just the usual 'Here are some good songs, look!" Some of the songs are connected though and I shall now unfold the uninteresting tale of how so.

I love the photo I've used this month (just look at the mind-blowing joy on that kid's face! Also, I had pretty much all of that Star Wars stuff and it was ace) and the Mrs. Fletcher song seemed to fit it perfectly, so I stuck them together and here we are. The partial theme comes from the fact that I also had a few other songs waiting for inclusion that had geeky song matter, song titles or band names so I bunged a few of them into the mix as well. I did toy with the idea of doing a wholly Nerd based mix but there were other songs I really wanted people to hear so I abandoned that for now.

I hope you enjoy the songs, feel free to read what I've said about them and keep yourself alright,

Cheers,
Luke

Again, there are about a half dozen songs from CDs I rediscovered rummaging through storage crates in the attic, Stony Sleep, Soul Coughing, The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and a couple of others It's been a slog, copying thousands of albums to iTunes but it's been fun too.

Mix CD #37 - Earn Your Stripes

For the last few years, since I moved house, the majority of my CDs have been kept in crates in the attic. I had the albums I wanted at the time ripped to iTunes and never bothered with the discs after that. Over the last 4-5 weeks, I've been tidying up there, restacking stuff and going through all the crates of CDs, a lot of which it's been 10-15 years since I listened to them last. I've rediscovered old favourites, re-assessed albums I'd once passed over and even found a few that I had no idea I even owned.

During those last few weeks, I've ripped the CDs and added around a thousand more albums or so to iTunes. I was concerned that I was starting to run out of things to include on these mixes but, as you can imagine, doing this has massively bolstered my stockpile of songs to sift through. There's about half a dozen tracks of rediscovered stuff on this mix. Feel free to guess which ones.

I really like the album cover I've pinched this month, I think it ties in well with the title. Together they convey the message that the difference between a good soldier and a great one isn't just a skill and propensity to kill but to maintain some humanity and compassion as well.

Tracklisting
The Generators - Earn Your Stripes
Sasquatch - Seven Years To Saturn
Folly - The Weak And The Wounded
Kim Seviour - Fabergé

Mix CD #36 - Welcome To Gunville

This mix was originally going to be a themed one, a contentious theme that you can probably work out from the mix title, which hasn't changed.
I started compiling songs that were both pro and anti-guns so as to try and be objective but then I got to thinking, I live in Bishop Auckland, a small town in the North of England and I spent the majority of my life in York, a small city in the North of England. I have about as much real knowledge on firearms as Donald Trump does about tiggy hido so it didn't really seem right for me to get involved too much. Also, I didn't want grief from either The Snowflakes or Team America World Police. Thusly, I bottled it.

As I said, the title remained and a couple of the tracks but other than that it's now just an unthemed mix of music, both new and old, that I've been liking lately, as per the norm. Hopefully you shouldn't something you don't hate.

So yeah, here's the 36th mix, have a read, have a listen if you want and I hope you like it.

Cheers,
Luke

P.S. For what it's worth, I think there's probably a bit of room for compromise on both sides

Mix CD #34 - Battered And Bruised

Happy Valentine's Day! Here's the first non themed blog of 2018 and it's full of wildly inappropriate Valentine's songs about loneliness and divorce. There's no subtle hinting to my beautiful wife, just coincidence and very poor timing.

I wanted to get it out and finished a while ago but I've been having personal issues that have meant I've been off work and staring at a screen for large amounts of time isn't conducive to a good time.  I've been working on it for far too long and changed it around a ton but it's finally done, finished and ready for your massive enjoyment. So enjoy massively please ta!

Mix CD #32 - The Start Of Something Beautiful

Hello and welcome to the thirty second blog and what will very probably be the last one of the year!

It has been quite a while since my last entry, the inexplicably popular, covers mix, six weeks or so I think. Sorry about that, blame The Punisher.

It's back to a themeless mix this time, with a reasonably eclectic collection of songs that I have enjoyed and would also like you to enjoy. I would also like it if you read the banal drivel I've written about each track too, but don't feel you have to or anything.

As I mentioned in the Facebook group, the next mix will be my top albums of 2017 and I'm aiming to have it done and published at some point in January but if I get it done earlier then there's no point hanging about and I'll stick it up.

In the meantime, them songs to enjoy, look.

Mix CD #30 - Who Will Sing Me Lullabies?

So here's the thirtieth blog. Is 30 a milestone? It feels like it should be a milestone. It's certainly a lot. I'd regale you with debauched tales of what I got up to on my 30th birthday, only I haven't a clue what I did, completely forgot. Maybe it's because it was such a wild night but more than likely I just spent it playing Halo. Birthdays are rubbish after about 23 or so anyway.

Yeah anyway, the blog. It's the usual mix of new and old. There's some heavy stuff, some Punk, Indie, a little bit of Folk, an even littler bit of Hip Hop. All just things I've liked and wanted to use. As always, you can read what I have t say about each track below and also download the mix if you want too.

The next blog is gonna be another themed mix I've decided. It's been an age since the last Covers mix and I have a huge batch of prospective tracks to use. I've also got a couple of non themed mixes backed up too so I'm good for the time being at least.

I hope you enjoy this one for now though.
Cheers
Luke
